Job Title: Carbon Weaver Operator Job Description

This role focuses on operating weaving equipment to produce high-quality carbon-based fabrics used in advanced composite and protective applications. The Carbon Weaver Operator sets up and runs air jet and Rapier looms, creates circuit looms, prepares yarn, and ensures product quality from start to finish. The position offers the opportunity to work in the carbon room for additional compensation and to grow into other roles within the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate weaving machines, including air jet looms and Rapier looms, to produce carbon-based fabrics and circuit looms.
  • Bomb (prepare) yarn and ensure proper yarn handling and feed throughout the weaving process.
  • Thread needles by hand and verify correct machine threading prior to operation.
  • Inspect fabric continuously during production to confirm patterns are correct and consistent.
  • Perform pick counts and closely monitor the fabric to identify any defects or anomalies.
  • Stop the machine and flag fixer apprentices or maintenance support when quality issues or defects are detected.
  • Ensure the machine operates smoothly by monitoring performance and addressing minor issues within scope of responsibility.
  • Maintain high attention to detail to prevent defects that could stop machine operation or compromise product quality.
  • Patrol the work area on foot throughout the shift to observe machine performance and product quality.
  • Follow established safety procedures and quality standards while working in the carbon room and on all weaving equipment.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of machine operating experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail to detect pattern irregularities, defects, and anomalies in fabric.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with production machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to perform general labor tasks associated with machine operation and production.
  • Experience with machine operation, assembly, or production processes.
  • Ability to perform visual inspection and quality checks on products.
  • Capability to walk 4–7 miles per shift and remain on feet for extended periods while patrolling the work area.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience operating weaving or textile machinery, such as air jet looms or Rapier looms, is highly beneficial.
  • Background in inspection or quality-focused roles in a manufacturing setting.
  • Comfort working with carbon-based materials and in specialized production rooms.
  • Willingness to cross-train and grow into additional roles within the organization.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility focused on advanced carbon materials and soft armor production. The role primarily involves working on air jet and Rapier looms in a production setting, with significant time spent on your feet and walking 4–7 miles per shift. The standard schedule is a 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift on a 2x2x3 rotation, with initial training provided on a 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. schedule. The carbon room requires wearing a suit and, optionally, a hood respirator, reflecting a controlled and safety-conscious environment. You will work around mechanical equipment, production lines, and inspection stations, following established safety and quality procedures throughout your shift.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
