Job Description

Instructional Designer

Want to make a difference? Join an organization committed to sharing the hope of true transformation with those impacted by incarceration for nearly 50 years. Prison Fellowship® is the nation's largest Christian nonprofit equipping the Church to serve currently and formerly incarcerated people and their families, and to advocate for justice and human dignity.

What we are looking for:

A creative and team-focused Instructional Designer who is in agreement with Prison Fellowship's Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct to develop instructional content and learning experiences for program participants, staff, and volunteers in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will analyze business goals, performance gaps, and learner needs to determine the right learning or performance support solution.

Expectations of this role:

  • Maintain an active relationship with Jesus Christ and support the ministry through prayer and actions
  • Analyze business goals, performance gaps, and learner needs to determine the right learning or performance support solution, translate ambiguous requirements into effective instructional strategies, and define measurable learning objectives aligned to desired behaviors and outcomes
  • Design and develop learning experiences for volunteers, program participants (e.g., prisoners, wardens, church partners, and other partner organizations), and Prison Fellowship staff, by creating engaging learning deliverables for eLearning, instructor-led materials, virtual training, and job aids
  • Write and refine clear, concise course content, scripts, scenarios, and assessments aligned to learning objectives. Effectively self-edit and revise for clarity and instructional effectiveness, while ensuring consistency with organizational style, brand, and messaging
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and subject matter experts by asking insightful questions to uncover true performance needs, while clearly communicating instructional design rationale, managing expectations, and incorporating feedback
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, video, graphic design and other marketing partners to consult on, coordinate, and deliver cohesive, high-quality learning assets that align with brand and communication standards
  • Partner closely with project managers to help define project scope, tasks, and timelines
  • Provide in-person or virtual facilitation for end-users and/or trainers as needed
  • Serve as an admin of Prison Fellowship learning platforms (e.g., adding new courses and users into the LMS)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, adult education, curriculum design or similar; graduate degree preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as client-facing customer service skills
  • This is a remote/virtual position in the United States
